Other Parents with Teen children

Hi there, My family recently moved to Florence (Q1) from San Francisco, CA. As we are only here (with the Stanford Overseas Program) for three months (April – June), we decided not to enroll our 13 yo daughter (7th grade) and 10 yo son (4th grade) in the International School. We hired tutors instead but they don’t have any exposure to kids their age. I was hoping to reach parents on this list with similar-aged kids to arrange a meet and greet. Please email me at akohrman@stanford.edu if you’d like to get together. Thanks! Amy

English teacher/ babysitter

Hello! I’m an italian mum, I saw your website while I was looking for an English teacher/baby sitter for my kids.

I have a boy, 3 years old and a girl, 6  years old. I would like to find someone (English speaking, mother-tongue) to spend one afternoon a week, maybe one hour and a half, or two hours with my kids, speaking in English and having fun with them at our home. We live near P.za Alberti, campo di marte.

Thank you  and I hope to hear good news soon.

What to do on the weekend

Hi every one!
I’m SO glad I found this web site!!!
I live in Florence with my two kids (2 years and 9 months) and I’m looking for fun stuff to do the week ends. I know already about Mondo Bimbo and Ludoteca, is there anything else to do with young kids (It’s more for my 2 year old…).
I’m alone very often, so if one you wanna meet for play dates or coffee, I’m free!
Thank you!
Elsa

Nursery School with flexible hours or Childminder

I’m moving to Florence with my family in mid-August. I have a daughter who is 4 and will be attending the Kindergarten School. I also have a son who is 16mths. He could go to the nursery there but it is basically every day and I would prefer to get him some childcare for a couple of mornings a week and then take him to playgroups, the park etc. Does anyone know either of a nursery with more flexible hrs or a childminder you would recommend. We will be living in the piazza d’azeglio area. Many thanks! Becca

Playmates for my 5-year-old daughter

I will be living in Florence for 3 months starting in late August with my spouse and our two small children, ages 1 and 5. I seek advice in finding activities and playmates for my 5-year-old daughter.

We would like to find part-time regular activity for her with peers, especially other English-speaking children. It would be ideal for some of these activities to be supervised by other adults so I can take care of work and/or spend some time with just the baby.

Does anyone know of regular playgroups for children in her age range during the week, or might someone be interested in a setting up a weekly playtime with us? We will be living in the area between Fortezza da Basso and Piazza San Marco. Can anyone recommend fun supervised activities that take place on a regular schedule? Will I find children her age at the various ludoteca during the week or will everyone be in school?

We are thinking it is probably not worth the effort to try to get her into a school (and for her to struggle through the adjustment to an Italian-speaking classroom as a monolingual English-speaking child) since we will be leaving Florence in late November to spend time elsewhere in Italy before returning home to the US. But if anyone can recommend a good place where the teachers and other children speak some English and where there may be openings at this late date, please let me know. Kindergarten Institute had no space when I inquired several months ago.

Thanks,
Kim
