Hi, thanks for the interesting posts, including those on schooling options in Florence. What would you recommend for a working couple moving to Florence with two kids (seventh grade and second grade)? We will only be in Florence for 6 months most likely, but there could be an extension. The International School is not in our budget. Thanks for any ideas . . .

For anyone who is interested, the Montessori center on via Zanzanobi has a summer session from July 2 – 31 from 8:30 – 16:00 ages 2-5 years old, a max of 15 children.
Also they going to have a pre-school program, same hours and ages beginning in Sept. Max of 15 children. Call AGNESE 3478948776 for details. She’s Italian, and I don’t know how much English she speaks. However, this is a nice little center, and the women involved all seem very caring and good at what they do.
Summer Experience – Summer Day Camp and Overnight Camp in English
No matter their level of English – from beginner to mothertongue – your children will have a blast at our summer camps which are organized completely in English, with native speaking counselors.
Where:
Day camp is held at the Casa del Popolo in Osteria Nuova (the comune of Bagno a Ripoli) in Via Roma, 448. The site is immersed in the Florentine hills and offers access to fantastic indoor and outdoor facilities, including nature walks and a soccer field (which we use for much more than soccer).
Our overnight camp is at the Antico Spedale del Bigallo in Via Bigallo e Apparita, again in the comune of Bagno a Ripoli. Bigallo overs a breathtaking view onto the city and the perfect setting for our fun camp.
When:
Day camp is from 8.30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday starting June 11 and finishing July 6 (four weeks). Kids may attend one, two, three or four weeks. (Extended hours are available at an additional cost if a minimum number of requests are made).
Overnight camp is from late afternoon on July 1 til lunchtime on July 7.
Who is welcome:
All kids from ages 6 through 14 are welcome at our day camp. Overnight camp is open to older kids from aged 11 and up.

Public Schools
Hello! We are an English speaking family from San Francisco California coming to Florence for three months on 1 February from Barcelona. Our children are 11 and 8 and I was wondering of there are any playgroups for older children? Also does anyone know if it is possible to enroll in public schools for short term. We are renting an apartment in Santa Croce and I’ve already contacted several of the classes from your recommendations. Thanks for the information and look forward to connecting! All the best, Jeannine jeanninemiles@yahoo.com
Help with schools, Anyone?
My child Lorenzo will start school in Sept 2012. He is Bilingual and we are moving to either Siena or Luca during the summer . We love both towns and are now assessing schools to see which area would suit our children best.
I have found references to Mimosa in Lucca and the international school in Siena. But can’t find any other recommendations for the public system or even other Italian private primary schools.
Is there are mums in those areas who might be able to help recommend others?
“Open Day” Steiner Waldorf School

Babysitter and Schools in Pistoia
Hello, my name is Ariane, and I have just moved to Pistoia from California. I have 2 boys and their ages are 3 1/2 and 1 1/2. I was wondering where can I find an english speaking babysitter and I would also like to know, if there is a english or french school that I can put my son in that is in Pistoia or somewhere near. My husband and I went to the school in Florence, but realized we would spend too much time driving and on gas driving back and forth 2x a day. Thanks for your help!
