Hi Moms, I have been out of the loop a little with the preparing of the course which is done for now until Fall.  Then we are going to hopefully add the Certificate CPR course in English as well.  Again this was the Italian Course they offer here to the community that was just changed over to English.  The course was created by Meyer and the Trauma Center there. I went and pushed them to do it in English since I felt is it important especially for new moms to know this information and to give them the opportunity to ask questions.  I know the courses are different then the ones in US.  Here they talk about Prevention with choking and CPR not so much of first aid.  There is a brochure that that has the actual First Aid information.  I had volunteered to translate that as well for Meyer but is not ready yet it still needs them to put the graphics in it.  When it is ready Meyer will be giving me copies so I can give to those interested and those that came to the course a copy.  I know some are asking about poison control number, but though they have a great center her in Florence, the Poison control number is the same for all emergencies 118 is the number you call.  The person you talk to is supposed to help you out with what you can do until the ambulance arrives here.  One thing we need to keep in mind is that not all the things here are going to be like you do at home poison center etc.  So when you have an emergency call 118.  I would like to thank again those that participated and donated to Meyer.  Kim

This site is very helpful when you want to learn about car seat safety and the correct way of placing the car seat for the different ages.  The rules are the same here in Italy.  It is a law and children are required to be in a car seat. 

Reduce Their Risk

In 2009, 1,314 children ages 14 years and younger died in motor vehicle crashes, and approximately 179,000 were injured. But parents and caregivers can make a lifesaving difference. Whenever you’re on the road, make sure your child passengers are buckled into appropriate safety seats. The safest place for children of any age to ride is properly restrained in the back seat. Data show that: In 2010, restraint use saved the lives of 303 children ages 4 and younger. Child safety seats reduce the risk of death in car crashes by 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers ages one to four. For children ages 4 to 7, booster seats reduce injury risk by 59% compared to safety belts alone.All children younger than 13 years should ride in the back seat. Airbags can kill young children riding in the front seat. Never place a rear-facing car seat in the front seat or in front of an air bag.

Why do you want to know your pollution level?

Well the big thing that they have been linking the pollution in the city too is Asthma in children. This does not mean your child will get asthma since some are more prone then others, but they do say that this is one of the big culprits for causing Asthma in Children.

That said they do have regulations for the pollution levels. When the pollution gets to high they cut back on the amount of cars that can circulate in the city. Since I have been here this has happened almost every year.

Should you be concerned? Personally I prefer to be in a more greener environment then on a main street if possible, but that is  not always possible.  So good thoughts though,  many have lived here in Florence all their life and are 100 years old and walking the streets daily without any problems at all.

The amazingly talented cast of ISF students will be presenting Rodgers and Hammerstein’s time honored classic, The Sound of Music,  this Saturday, 18 May at the Teatro Everest in Galluzzo. There will be two showtimes beginning with a matinée performance at 12:00 pm followed by an evening finale at 7:00 pm.

Under the co-direction of Linda Morus, John Pitonzo and choreographer, Evita Flock, our cast of students in the Upper School Drama and Music Department have worked very hard over the last several months and Saturday’s production promises to be a “not to miss” event.
